Exclusive climbing Ishinca + Urus + Tocllaraju
"Spectacular climbing three summit in Ishinca valley"

Mount Ishinca at 5530 meters (18,138 feet), this is justifiably one of the most popular summits in the cordillera Blanca, which is settled between the 6000 meter-plus summits of Ranrapalca to the west and Palcaraju to the east. Climbing Ishinca is entirely on good snow and a bit of a portion of hard ice at the beginning. However, it does include some up-close-and-personal views of impressive crevasses and the final snow slope to the summit. From the summit offers a magnificent mountainscape to anywhere, where shooting innumerable pictures will never be enough. This lovely climbing destination is ideal for beginners with the opportunity to be exposed to a great experience of mountain climbing. Besides Ishinca is appropriate for advanced-level climbers, who are looking for acclimatization or warming up to climb higher nearby peaks.

Mount Urus Este at 5420 meters (17,777 feet) it’s another spectacular summit ideal for acclimatization to attempt nearby higher peaks in the Cordillera Blanca. Easy summit to climb, crevasses are not a concern as the mountain only has a small snowcap. The normal route goes bordering the small glacier for a slope of snow not complicated on the south face. The interest in this peak is for its location with fabulous & outstanding views of Tocllaraju, Ishinca & Ranrapalca.

Mount Tocllaraju Tocllaraju at 6032 m (19,785 feet) it is a wonderful peak over 6000 meters in elevation, which is settled head of jewel Ishinca valley. Tocllarjau is (very) demanding in terms of physical condition and mountaineering technique. Good acclimatization is essential in order to ensure a successful ascent. The view from the summit is really fantastic - along the perfect ice slopes on the west side of the mountain, it is crowned on the Summit by the traditional for that mountain system "ice mushroom", which glows at sunset with all the colors of flame. The climbing route of Tocllaraju is not very complicated, however, it requires certain skills - in the upper section of the route, there are several pretty steep sections of ice. Overall, the climbing route of Tocllaraju is ideal as a good climbing program for those who want to try their hand at technical ice climbing. Furthermore, climbing Tocllaraju helps to refresh the skills of ice & snow climbing and dealing with altitude on the steep slopes, these skills may well be needed for more challenging mountain climbing. It is a fascinating peak that might be your first, second, or third 6000-meter climb for anyone.

The normal route for climbing Ishinca/ Urus (Ishinca valley):

On our website, we describe the normal route, which is a more common route to ascent via the south-west ridge, on the crest between Ranrapalca and Ishinca – Ishinca valley. For Urus the normal route is on via the south slope & east ridge. This is a great route & feasible if you are fit & well-acclimatized climbing with a regular ice axe.

Note: Two routes for climbing Tocllaraju - one very difficult, other more moderate

Normal route to climbing Tocllaraju (west slope & north ridge): On our web site, we describe the normal route, which is a more common route to ascent on via west slope glacier & north ridge, via Ishinca valley. This is a great route & feasible if you are in fit & well acclimatized climbing with two ice axes.

The West Face: this route is a little bit more difficult than the normal route, which is similar to Alpamayo's Southwest Face, but a bit longer, and without the fixed protection, which commonly found on Alpamayo, And best of all, it lacks Alpamayo's crowds and the hazards they bring. It is not an easy route, where the climbers who attempt it need to have a solid experience on steep ice, and on long alpine ice & snow faces. The technical portion of the climb is about 400 meters long. For those attempting the West Face, a higher level of mountain climbing experience is advisable.

Tips on Getting Acclimatize

Getting acclimatization is really quite easy. In fact, it is unavoidable if you just pass the time at altitude. You can't help yourself. After a couple of nights sleeping at 3000 meters (10,000 feet) try to move up to a higher elevation to sleep.

Things to avoid:

  • Strenuous exercise upon arrival at altitude is generally a bad idea.
  • Light exercise, such as walking is much better. If you have just arrived in Huaraz
  • Sleeping medications should be avoided until you are sure that you are not suffering
  • From any symptoms of Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS).
  • Confusing one illness for another is a common occurrence. Dehydration can bring on headaches, a symptom also common to AMS. While AMS, in severe cases can cause nausea and even vomiting, it does not cause stomach cramps or diarrhea
Suggestion for advanced level climbers:

please understand that before climbing three summits at ishinca valley, You should complete a good acclimatization process to avoid the terrible altitude sickness, ask us to provide you the right advice. Example spend at least a couple of day hikes around Huaraz.

  • Laguna churup is a good option
  • Climbing Nevado Mateo for second-day acclimatization is advisable
  • Climbing PD difficult peaks Pisco, Ishinca, Vallunaraju or Yanapaccha. Either can be a good option.
  • Finally climbing mount Tocllaraju.
Suggestion for novice climbers:

If you are planning to visit our region, you can maximize what you can do? How you can enjoy it with better health? You should make a good acclimation process, as soon as you visit our highland region to avoid the dangerous altitude sicknesses, because, from our own experience, we understand the main point of interest is what our clients need to feel safe and comfortable away from their home. For example novice climber follow the next procedure:

  • Begin with couple day hikes as laguna wilcacocha + laguna churup or laguna 69.
  • Then pass to multi-day treks can be a week or couple of weeks (treks Santa Cruz, Huayhuash circuit or Cedros Alpamayo) are a nice for training.
  • After that attempt climbing easy peaks with (PD difficult) summits as Pisco, Vallunaraju, Maparaju, Ishinca, Urus) either is a great option.
  • Finally, after passing all process, your body is ready to attempt moderate level climbing peaks (AD difficult) summits as Tocllaraju or Chopicalqui.
Guiding Ratio on Climbing Mount Ishinca/Urus

For not technical level summits with PD difficult: 3 by 1, which means a maximum of three clients for guide, for the technical nature of the route, because, climbing in large groups of more than 3 will be accompanied by additional guides, as necessary. We consider that because of the less ration a guide increases our safety.

Guiding Ratio on Climbing Mount Tocllaraju

For technical level summits with AD - D difficult: 2 by 1, which means maximum two clients for guide, for the technical nature of the route, because, climbing in large groups more than 2 will be accompanied by additional guides, as necessary. We consider that because of the less ration a guide increase our safety.

A large variety of excursions

We offer a variety of day hikes, multi-day treks & climbing expeditions with many options to choose. We do not just center on the traditional treks or day tours that everyone else offers. We offer uncommon routes in places where there are no large groups only upon client request. Here are some great trip programs, just click on this web page. www.perubesttreks.com

Small groups

We are focused on organizing small private groups to give a first-class (personalized) service on tours, multi-day treks, and climbing expeditions to provide a memorable experience for adventure lovers. "You are on vacation - We are here to make your trip something very special." In small private groups, our professional guides can provide each client with the personalized attention they deserve.

No Single Supplements (personal tent)

If you join one of our adventure expeditions as a single person, we will match you with other travelers of the same gender without additional charge. However, if you want an individual occupation or supplement (a personal tent), we can also arrange that for a small additional charge.

We look after our guides, porters, cooks, and muleteers.

We want to make sure that you have a great unforgettable experience during the development of our programs, however, it is also important that everyone involved in the operation of our treks is well treated humanely and cared for (not exploitation), and that the benefits it provides Tourism be shared Throughout the Peruvian communities. All our porters, cooks, and muleteers, sleep in a shared sleeping tent that has a waterproof floor, besides they have access to any first aid equipment if necessary. we consider this to have a humane and fair treatment of human beings, (many companies in the Cordillera Blanca do not practice this important item instead practice it, they try to reduce their salary, and increase their work under non-human treatment, which is visible if you want to decide to make any trek or climb in this region). We can guarantee that our guides, porters, cooks, and muleteers are well treated, receive a fair wage, are well paid according to the price established in each place, where develops the adventure activities, & they have also warm dry accommodation and plenty of nutritious hot meals to eat. This is concerning our program rate is a bit expensive compared to others the reason is here: (fair salary, good client service and humane treatment of staff).
Of course, many other trekking companies in Huaraz will tell you this, just only for selling their programs. However, there are fewer than a handful of companies that genuinely care about their staff.

We take care of our transport animals (donkey, horse)

We focus highly on the protection of our transport animals since they are the other fundamental piece for the correct development of trekking & climbing expeditions, the maximum weight is 35 - 40 kilograms for each animal, therefore we use in our expeditions the necessary amount of animals, according to the number of participants and group luggage. As for the staff, many other trekking companies in Huaraz will tell you this for selling their programs. However, in reality, it is completely different & if you buy with these companies, you will see during the trek those animals are carrying more than 50 kilos, outside the limit of their capacity. Furthermore, you will watch a large group of 10 - 12 people using just only 4 - 5 donkeys for transferring personal and group luggage + and all food supplies, just a day before the departure of your trip, you will be announced that the luggage limit is no more than 5 kilos per person including your sleeping bag. This means if your luggage weight is more than five kilos you need to add an extra payment for extra cargo animals or in another hand, you have to carry in your personal backpack (something that was not planned by you and never was advertised before your booking).

Clothing

  • Hiking boots or hiking shoes: good hiking boots are the most important piece of gear on your hike to approach at base camp; badly fitting hiking boots will result in lost nails, painful blisters & sore feet. Here some recommended and reliable kinds of boots. For example, a B0 is advisable whatever brand can be.
  • Climbing Boots: need to be crampon-compatible. For most easy climbs up to over 5600 meters, a lightweight mountaineering boot (B2) is more than adequate. For summits up to about 6000 meters, a B3 boot is required, mostly for the additional warmth it provides. Well-insulated single leather or synthetic mountaineering boots, or lighter plastic boots, are appropriate. The Sportiva, scarpa Nepal Evo is a good example.
